SSOE, a global architecture and engineering firm, led the design of a manufacturing facility in Southeastern region of the United States. Early in the design phase, they evaluated three faรงade glazing options:

  • Storefront systems with multiple windows
  • A simplified window-only design
  • A horizontal storefront configuration

While local code was considered, building performance was the primary driver for both the designers and the owner.

To address this, Envelope Analysis was used to study glazing percentages and their impact on heat gain and daylighting.

โ€œCoordination with our mechanical designers was so much quicker and easier because we obtained information through Envelope Analysis early on.โ€

Multiple analyses were run quickly, generating comparative reports and visual data to support decision-making.

โ€œUsing Envelope Analysis allowed us to carry out a process that would usually take a full day or more in twenty minutes.โ€

By examining how different glazing ratios affected performance, optimal WWRs were selected for each faรงade, balancing daylight and heat gain. Forma and Envelope Analysis provided clear, graphical insights that enhanced understanding and supported more informed design decisions.
